Landboarding spots in neasr Rotterdam?
« Gepost op: januari 20, 2012, 10:59:20 »
Hello, excuse me for not being able to speak or write dutch (or read), and hopefully you wont mind me using english.

I've moved to the Netherlands few months ago and I've been looking for spots to do my kiteboarding etc. I've been in Ijmuiden few times, but it is bit of a drive since i live in Rotterdam myself.

So I would like to ask if anyone could suggest good spots anywhere nearer the area where I live in.

Thank you already!

Don't worry about not being able to speak Dutch. Most Dutchies are quite able to get their point across in English.

I live just north of Rotterdam in Berkel en Rodenrijs. We have a location next to the N471. Right next to the McDonalds. It has some water issues though. After a couple of rain showers you're almost better off with a board with fins.

Another spot you may like is the old landfill of Rotterdam near the town of Bergschenhoek. If you look on the link below you see the ski slope as a white blob at the bottom of the image. Just follow the Rottebanddreef a bit further until you reach the parkinglot in the top of the picture. The field in between the parkinglot and the ski slope is where you need to be. It's a 2 minute walk from the parking.
This location is on a small hill so you will always have some turbulent winds. No biggy, but something you should be aware of.

You need to zoom out one step to see the parkinglot.

Hard beaches are pretty limited. Closest ones will probably be Brouwersdam and Ouddorp. IJmuiden you know and one of the islands called Schiermonikoog is supposedly pretty nice.
When you're looking for kite landboarding shops, what specifically are you looking for? Kite landboarding is a pretty small sport so you often find it combined with all sorts of things. Most kite shops in NL can help you out.
We have our own business doing import but also retailing kites, boards and accessories. We don't have a webshop up yet, but if you tell me what you're looking for I might be able to help you out or otherwise refer you to someone else that can.

Well I was  just after a localish shop that had more stock of landboarding accessories i.e, board decks, trucks, bearings, wheels, etc, etc OH and kites of course, fixed bridle depower kites seem to be the future so i wouldnt mind checking them out too. I only want to potter around and browse to be honest :D. I have been to a couple in Den Haag but they mostly focused on kitesurfing. I do kite surf but I also enjoy the landboarding too.

Im from England and the sports pretty hit off over there, kitesurfing seems to be the one over here. Plenty of spots for that i gather.

Also I went and took to dog to check out that old landfill today. Thats pretty nice patch of green, weather was aweful so didnt even attempt. Is that a local spot for many kiters?

Cheers

Well we don't have a actual shop so for browsing you need to go somehere else I'm affraid. I think Vliegers en Co has the most on stock equipment in the Netherlands. Unfortunately it's in Deventer and that's about a two hour drive from here.

You won't find many local flyboarders on the landfill spot. Most enthousiastic flyboarders will drive to IJmuiden. I'm planning to go riding at the landfill more. Just trying to make flyboarding more my thing which it currently certainly isn't. On water and snow I'm fine, but I still don't have the guts for proper flyboarding.

Checked out that vliegers en co, the prices are insane! I dont know if you might know these webshops powerkiteshop.com and atbshop.co.uk, yeah there english sites but there prices seem pretty reasonable and a wide selection of gear too. I get alot of my gear off ebay too, they have a few bargains every now and then.

Cheers for the help anyway pal.

Im going to check out the ouddorp beach you recommended tomorrow. The weathers looks like its going to be good and since my girlfriends is off work aswell, its an ideal day. Im expecting a big empty beach with plenty of nice hard packed sand! :P

Prices seem to be higher here in NL then in the UK sometimes. But if you take your time to find what you need you usually end up with a good price. Just like you are doing by buying on Ebay. It's never going to be a cheap sport though.

I'm not entirely sure where to go on the beach for flyboarding in Ouddorp. I found this info (in Dutch) on another forum for you: http://www.vliegerforum.nl/blog/ad_branger/index.php?showentry=322
There's a lot of buggy riders on that forum, so this should be where you have a hard beach. Brouwersdam is a 5 minutes further to the south. Overthere the southern half of the beach is allowed for sports. Although they don't really make a fuss during winter time if you use the nothern half too.
Have fun and bring back some pictures.

Hallo guy,
I'm from dover (well really dutch but lived there for ages) and rode camber sands and whitstable.
There's no big beachs like that in nederland, but most of us here ride on grass (cow fields).
I have found that the dutch like there fields to have alot of tress around.
Which is a bummer when you find a nice spot.
I ride most of the time at ijmuiden with a lot of another riders.
We have a meeting topic on this forum but you can only see it when you get to a sir-ten amount of posts.
Other goed beach is at DE Panne in Belgium.
Hope you find a nice home spot near you.
Hope to meet up soon.
Just fly what you like.

Welcome to the forum!
I live in Rotterdam too, i study there and go flyboarding here sometimes.
When I do I go to Hoek Van Holland by train. 40 min.
By car it Will be around 30 min. The problem is you only have harder sand when THE sea is down.
So you are stricted by that, for me it is fine.

So you followed my suggestion @KC.com to join PK.nl and FB.nl?! Welcome!

Regarding beach spots: IJmuiden is the place to be with low AND high tide. At low tide, you can also check some of the beaches in Zeeland (e.g. Ouddorp, Breskens) and maybe in the foreseeable future we can go back to the Maasvlakte which was a brilliant spot but is closed at the moment because of the construction work/land creation that is taking place there.
